To err is human, but to really foul things up -- requires a computer...

From the persistence of the reminder to make a journal entry, I give!

What you will find in my gallery over time is a collection of Linux related desktop and window manager wallpapers, themes, configurations, etc.. for just about all of the Linux desktops. (blackbox, enlightenment (e16 & e17), fluxbox, fvwm2, gnome, icewm, kde3 ('KDE Classic') & kde4, lxde, openbox, pekwm, sawfish, WindowMaker, and xfce4. (there are a couple of others, but I have no modifications for them) The desktop exploration largely the result of the kde4 fiasco. However, in one sense I'm glad kde4 has been such a train-wreck because, if kde4 had been delivered on time and in any type of reasonable working condition, I would have missed out on learning these really fantastic desktops and window managers.

Yes, they really are quite good lightweight desktops that function great on even older hardware. If you want to ease into exploring some fantastic desktops, I'd recommend starting with something like lxde which has more of the familiar W95 start-menu setup, traditional task bar and system tray in a lightweight form. Then once your comfortable with how lxde works (nothing but openbox with a few bells and whistles), move into openbox itself. Then on to the stable version of enlightenment (E16) or fluxbox. Both are fantastic desktops. Then look at the development version of enlightenment (E17). It has all the bling kde4 has and then some.

Now, with my journal entry complete, and with reasonable effort I might add, I'll go back and see if I can get another tidbit uploaded. Enjoy!
